Zygor Guides Update: 3.0.2 Update - From John Cook

From the Voice of John Cook Zygor Guides Are back up and running. Only 1 hour for a response time on a help email...if that is not turn around I don't kown what is. =)

"Hello,
Zygor Guides Is Back! All of us have been banging our heads against our keyboard for about 2 days straight now. Good news, though, the guides work again! :-) As you probably know, World of Warcraft is an ever-changing game. Sometimes patches, such as this latest one on Tuesday, are released and they completely destroy addon functionality. This was the case with patch 3.0.2. As a result, our guides were not working for the past 2 days, and I really want to give a huge "thank you" to all of you for patience with us while we worked on getting this working for you again.
With that said, let's get you back in game and leveling your characters again! Here's what you need to do:
1. Login to the Members Area of our website here and download you guide(s) again:http://www.zygorguides.com/cgi-bin/ppSD/login.pl
2. Follow these installation instructions found here:http://www.zygorguides.com/installation.html
3. Overwrite, or replace, your old guide folder with these new folders. It will ask you to do this during the installation of the new guides. Click "Yes" to overwrite the files.
4. Enjoy! If you have any trouble, please feel free to email me at zygor@zygorguides.com. I hope you enjoy the guides!
Take care.

3.0.2 Patch - World of Warcraft Updates to Guides

With the recent 3.0.2 patch update to WOW and the amount of changes and new features you have to ask yourself how is this going to tie into my guide? Well depends on your guide. If you have an ebook type guide then chances are you're NOT goign to get any new information, however if you purchased Zygor Guides you should be expecting updates as you would normally expect updates. Again Zygor Guides does provide lifetime updates. Along with those updates you should take the time to familiarize yourself with the new features of the game and start working on getting to know your new class spec better as EVERYTHING has changed.

Stay tuned for more information regarding updates.
UPDATE
The guide has officially been updated. You can find more information HERE

DID YOU DOWNLOAD THIS GUIDE? If you downloaded this guide(i.e. Torrent, isohunt, newsgroups) and don't want to put up with constant patch problems? BUY THE GUIDE... it's obviously worth it if you're still using it and actively trying to find patch updates.

The Role of a Warrior in PVP & Battlegrounds

Warrior – Meat shield, DPS, Mortal Strike, General Havoc and all around chaos.
Warrior PVP Tactics:
With a warrior you’re going to die unless you have a healer. Come to terms with that. But it’s ok. No BG is lost because you die and you don’t lose honor so who gives a crap. You do get honor for honorable kills though; this basically means if you hit someone and they die, you get honor for contributing to their deaths. So your goal should be to hit as many people as possible and ensure that between you and your team they end up dead. As a warrior you’re ineffective as a caster or ranged attacker. This means you’re going to have to get close to everything you kill. This also means that the things you get close to will be attacking you first and foremost because you are the immediate threat. No one likes a warrior wailing away at them.

Knowing that you’re going to be in the middle of things is key; as is knowing that the gaggle of casters you just stormed into are now all going to attack you is also key. You’re going to take damage and lots of it. That’s ok as long as you are drawing the fire away from your team. What this allows is for the rest of your team to come in and attack the casters that are trying to kill you. Essentially your caster friends should be able to get off 1-3 solid damaging spells before the caster realizes they are not taking damage from you. Now that they’ve killed you they can finally focus on killing the true attacker…but wait, they don’t have the life to do it and your casters can now destroy them with ease.

PVE translating into PVP. Warriors are great tanks in PVE this works for PVP as well because of the potential for a warrior to take so much damage. When worked correctly, casters should be running behind warriors finishing off whoever the warrior is attacking, utilizing the warrior as a tank. It’s a thankless job really and not glamorous at all, but it is very rewarding…honor wise at least. While you’re taking and dishing an ass whoopin, you’re team is cleaning up. If there is a healer in your ranks it’s even better. A warrior with a healer is not something any opponent wants to see in a battleground. I’ve personally killed (killing blows) over 50 people in an Arathia basin bg with the help of a caster. 1 on 1, 1 on 2, 1 on 4. With a good healer and a warrior it can be easily done.
Just remember as a warrior in pre 70 bg’s your goal is to hit hard, hit often, cause panic, mischief and mayhem. Intimidating shout, howling cry, concussion blow, or if you’re fury and duel wielding and find a good group of casters to jump into, try hitting your recklessness, the whirlwind, then sweeping strike, then whirlwind. I’ve single handedly ended a group of 6 casters with a tactic similar to this. I believe I tossed in an intimidating shout somewhere in there:)

Happy Hunting

Misadventures in Auchenai Crypts: How to get through Auchenai Crypts

A journey through Auchenai Crypts
So it’s only been a few days since my successful completion of Auchenai Crypts. Things started out grand, as we had a 65 warrior tank (me), a 65 Priest healing, another 70 warrior for DPS, a 64 warlock and a 64 rogue. We started out thinking it would be a cake walk. …oh how we were wrong.

We all get to the entrance and finally all admitted it would be our first time running the instance. Now the lvl rank on the instance is 65-68 or something along those lines.

Not only did we wipe upwards of 5 times, we accomplished this feat in the first pull before we figured out how best to get going. The problem with MOBS in the Auchenai Crypts is that for everyone 1 mob you pull 2-3 non elite mobs are summoned. So you do the math. Pull 1 mob fight 3 mobs, pull 2 mobs fight 6 mobs; pull 3 mobs fight 9+ mobs. To many mobs for 5 people to handle. If it wasn’t enough the non elite mobs like to possess member of your party.

Being possessed is fun, it’s sort of like having your account hacked while you’re still playing it and watching as you tear into your party blowing all your cool downs (great idea wow developers). The problem is you can’t break the casting of a mob channeling the possession spell. This leaves you with a limited number of options. One, you can try to kill the mob before he gets the spell off…this is kind of tough if everyone is not on the same page…but it can be done. Two, you can kill the player that has been possessed, which isn’t to bad if it’s DPS, it sucks if it’s the tank or the healer. Three and what we found to be the most effective, CCing the player who was possessed. This usually meant the warlock would fear the possessed player.

What eventually started working for us was for the rogue to CC one mob, I would then pull the non frozen mob as far back as possible making sure to hold agro on the Elite mob. The rest of the squad took aim at the non elites. They could usually wipe them before the first Elite broke from the CC. At which point I would make sure to meet the new elite and pull agro on him, again while the group wiped up the non elites. I of course would pull non elites off of the healer and other members but my main focus was the two elites. Once the non elites were done the rest of the group would come and finish off the elite mobs.

We were able to continue with this song and dance all they way up to the first boss. We wiped 2 more times getting there as we had someone get feared into 2 more mobs and someone was not paying attention to where they were walking in one case.

The first boss is basically damn hard. Does a fair amount of damage and does it fairly quickly. In addition to that the closer you are to him the longer your casting time takes, he shoots large fireballs and is an all around pain in the ass. After one rather quick wipe only getting him down to 26% we came back and creamed him…I guess it would have been smart to use a master healing stone the first time…and I did have to use my 30 min tank cooldown.

At this point the group went south with only myself and the healer wanting to stick around. We were able to get a quick group adding a 68 shammy, a 66 warlock, and a 66 paladin and finished the rest of the instance only wiping one time on the way. Needless to say there is a group of none elite skeletons in the last boss’s room. They are not like the skeletons in other instances that turn into dust with a simple AOE. Our lock and paladin figured they could make quick work of them and we pulled about 20 skeletons and only 2 elites…and wiped in about 3 seconds.

But that was it the last boss was simple and consisted of me tanking everything, but because there are only a few bosses that come out at a time it proved pretty simple.

Kick ass Tank PVE trinket in there as well that I won. Gives back 900HP for every kill you have with only a 2 min cool down.

Now when I pve to lvl I can kill one mob get 900 hp back, then kill another and lose about 500 hp then kill another and get back 900 hp. I do a lot less eating now

To date the Auchenai Crypts have been the most difficult instance I’ve had to endure.
